=======================================
Our land database is still going strong with 40 plots available in
various locations of Paphos district, in town, on the coast and in the
suburbs.
=======================================
Our rental property database is growing rapidly and we now manage most
of the properties ourselves, with 90% of all enquiries being handled
by our staff.
Property prices are still increasing rapidly driven by the heavy demand
primarily from foreign investors.
Typically a 1 bedroom property on a complex with a pool is now costing
CYP55,000.
Whereas, 3 years ago the same property would have cost
CYP27-35,000. The rising prices are significant and have doubled
and more in some cases.
Similar equations can be seen with Villas.
Some
now on the market for CYP500,000
=======================================
Don’t
forget to have a look at the new photographs in our picture
gallery,
approaching 800 mostly taken by our super staff :)
========================================
British
Airways now fly to Paphos Airport. The flights started on the 19th October
which was 2 weeks earlier than originally planned due to the demand.
We are all very pleased, it will mean we can use the air miles closer
to home. The prices currently start at CYP120.00,
as anticipated earlier this year more airlines will fly to Paphos, providing
healthy competition and reducing prices.
=========================================
Paphos sewerage system has been installed at last. Phase 1 is complete.
The roads are still being resurfaced and diversions are still in operation.
The signage is still inadequate so beware. Phase 2 of the operation
has not been announced. This will eventually start to take care of the
sewage system in the villages close to Paphos itself.
=======================================
Airport road. After much debate and speculation the dual carriageway
linking Kato Paphos to the airport is underway, we are not sure how
far they will get but it is anticapetd that the 1st phase from Tombs
of the Kings area through to The existing dual carriage way at the round
about (A1) near the Amathus beach hotel.
In mid-October Peyia Municipality concluded the contract-phase for
a new road that will relieve pressure in the heart of the village. At
present heavy vehicles rumble down through the village from the quarries
in the hills above and create a lot of noise and dust, as well as increasing
the potential for accidents in the narrow village roads. The new road
will start opposite the turning to the sea caves on the way to Ayios
Georgios, and will join the existing road above the village, at the
Pikni Forest boundary. The new road may also help reduce accidents at
the Coral Bay/Peyia crossroads. The opportunity will be taken to install
new waterpipes alongside the new road, thus improving supply to the
increasing number of houses in the Peyia village area. Work on the Ј2
million contract was due to start at the beginning of November and last
52 weeks.

The Marina due to be built at Coral bay to serve the Paphos area has
been put on hold, we will keep you posted.

TAX AVANTAGES
There are multiple tax advantages for living and retiring in Cyprus,
particularly for those retiring here.
For Example – retirees who become residents are only still taxed
at 5% of income/pension. For amounts exceeding CYP2,000 annually.
Naturally, this is a greater saving than other countries. The other
benefits are duty free privileges, though the list is diminishing. For
those of you who want to come and live/work in Cyprus. Income tax is
nil rated at up to CYЈ9,000 per annum (and CYP10,000
as of May 2004)
Duty Free privileges include: Cars, household goods,
furniture etc.
We are currently compiling a comprehensive guide that
we will let our subscribers know as soon as it goes onto the website.In
the meantime – Any
questions you may have, please forward them to the editor.
=======================================
Paphos
is set to have a State of the Art waste disposal built, that will comply
with EU standards.
The 4 Million pound project at Marathounda is due to begin late 2003,
early 2004 and considered very important and beneficial to the area.
=======================================
GSM contract has been awarded to Scancom, ahead of Greek based Cosmote.
The Lebanon backed company Scancom active in Lebanon and Africa bid
12.75 million for a 20 year contract to provide a service for mobile
phones in Cyprus.
Some 65% of islanders use mobile phones. Scancom are looking to take
30/40% of the market away from Cyta GSM.
It is important to note that Cyta GSM will be expected to match this
amount to procure their own GSM license since they were de-monopolized
and are now operating with competition.
=======================================
We are introducing a few recipes to our newsletter. To give you a flavour
of Cypriot food.
A couple of dips – these are dishes often served with a Meze.
A Meze is a continuous stream of dishes served to you throughout an
evening. Very Cypriot.
TZATZIKIЅ
large cucumber (2/3 small cucumbers
if you are in Cyprus)
Salt
150ml (ј pint) Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp. Olive oil
1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed
2 Tbsp. chopped fresh mint
Freshly ground pepper
Tzatzili is delicious as a sauce accompaniment to roast or barbecued
lamb. Halve the cucumber lengthways and scoop out the seeds, the small
cucumbers shouldn’t need this.
Remover the peel if you wish.
Chop the cucumber very finely and put it
into a large sieve; sprinkle generously with salt (about 1 Tbsp.)
And leave to drain over a bowl for about 1 hour.
Rinse the cucumber pieces on paper towels or a clean teatowel.
Mix the yogurt with the olive oil, garlic, mint and salt and pepper
to taste. Add the cucumber and stir well.
Serve immediately or cover and chill until required.
Tzatziki is best
eaten within a couple of days.
MELITZANO SALATA
2 large aubergines, about 450g (1lb)
I small onion peeled and roughly chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and roughly chopped
4 Tbsp. olive oil
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
Salt
Freshly ground pepper
To serve:
1-2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
Black or green olives
This dip has a much better flavour if the aubergines
are scorched over the barbecue; if this is impossible then bake them
in a preheated oven at 180 C (350 F) Mk. 4 for 45-50 minutes.Thread
the aubergines on to a skewer.
Place them on the greased grill
of a preheated BBQ and cook for 10 minutes.
Leave the aubergines until they are sufficiently cool to handle, then
peel them and chop the flesh on a wooden board.
Put the aubergine flesh into a liquidizer or food processor with the
onion, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste;
blend until smooth.
Transfer the puree to a bowl and sprinkle with the chopped parsley and
garnish with the olives.
Serve with pitta bread.This dip can be prepared in advance and kept in the fridge for up to
36 hours if tightly covered.
