Local news
The E & S supermarket chain recently purchased the Diogenious
supermarket.
The newly refurbished supermarket is located on the Paphos to Polis road
in the Mesogi area.

Fuel price increase
The price of diesel will gradually be increased by 12 cents per litre over
the next two years during the lead up to EU accession.
The price of petrol will be increased by 4 – 4,5 per cents per litre over
the same period. As a countermeasure, diesel car owners will pay less road
tax than they do at present.
The government can and probably will waive the tax on fuel used for household
heating.
Motorists will have to pay full prices. The government is not entitled to
make any reductions for vehicles as a result of EU rules.

Incoming bill for illegal parking
Local authorities are due to designate certain areas as no parking
zones, these will be properly marked and signed. Offenders will either be
clamped or towed away, depending on how long the vehicle has been parked
illegally. To get the clamps removed the owner of the vehicle will have to
pay CYP12.00.
If the vehicle is towed away, to get it back will cost CYP60.00.
Additionally, local municipalities also have the right to impose a CYP50.00
fine for the offence.

Telecommunications
CYTANET has increased the international bandwidth to 79Mbps and
now has the fastest internet access in the country.
International calls will be reduced by up to 18 percent from February 2002,
with calls to Greece set at nine cents a minute peak time and seven cents
off-peak, Britain and the US at 10 cents peak and eight cents off peak,
and Germany slashed to 15 cents peak and 12 cents off-peak.
The SoEasy package will now cost 10 cents for a local call.
CyTAGSM users on the Infrequent Callers scheme will pay a CYP3 monthly subscription
charge, and at rate of 8 cents a minute.
Standard Callers will pay a CYP5 subscription charge fee and calls will
now be 5 cents a minute and Frequent Callers will pay a CYP9 subscription
charge and a fee of 3 cents per minute for calls.
Between 10 PM and 7 AM, all national calls will be charged at one cent per
minute ( for mobile phone users)SMS now cost 2 cents per message.

Update
on Kato Paphos to Paphos airport freeway
Minster for Communications and Works Averoff Neophytou, recently confirmed
that the airport road will be built over the next 4-5 years at a cost of
CYP7.000.000. The journey time to the airport will be less than 5 minutes
from Kato Paphos.

Progress Reports
